But it doesn't have to be that way. Over the years, we've learned a few tried-and-true packing hacks that actually work - and they might just save your sanity.

1. Color Code Your Boxes

Skip the scribbles and use colored duct tape or stickers for each room. Red for kitchen, blue for bedroom, green for living room - you get the idea. It makes unloading and organizing your new place way faster.

2. Pack a "Day One" Essentials Box

Include everything you need right away: a change of clothes, toiletries, phone chargers, snacks, meds, and maybe even a roll of toilet paper. Keep it with you, not in the truck.

3. Use Towels and Linens as Padding

Wrap fragile items like dishes or glassware in both towels, t-shirts, and pillowcases. You'll save on bubble wrap and pack two things at once.

4. Leave Clothes on Hangers

Don't waste time folding your entire closet. Bundle clothes (5-10 at a time), slide a trash bag over the bottom, and tie it at the top around the hangers. Boom - portable garment bags.

5. Photograph Your Electronics Before You Unplug

Snap a quick pic of the back of your TV, game console, or computer setup. When it's time to reconnect everything, you'll know exactly what goes where.

6. Tape Screws and Small Parts to Their Furniture.

Taking apart a bed frame, crib, or table? Put the screws in a Ziplock, label it, and tape it right to the furniture. No more digging through mystery hardware later.

7. Don't Overpack Boxes

We get it - you want to use every inch. But overpacking leads to torn boxes and broken stuff. Stick to 50lbs max per box, and use smaller boxes for heavier items like books or tools.
